79 communities around the UK including the Shoreham footbridge would benefit from the sustainable transport charity winning the £50 million grant. Connect2 would build bridges, foot and cycle paths, and even reinstate a ferry giving people easier and healthier access to their schools, workplaces, shops parks and countryside.
Each of the bids will be highlighted in programmes on ITV1 in the week commencing 3 December. Sustrans’ Connect2 will be featured on 4 December. Telephone voting starts on 7 December and closes on 10 December. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 12 December.
Connect2 is competing with three other organisations to win lottery millions. These are the Eden Project, Sherwood Forest and the Black Country Urban Park.

Renewing the narrow Shoreham footbridge, improving the pedestrian/cycle connections from the beach to the town centre, Shoreham Station and other local destinations including schools is the local Connect2 scheme.
This will enhance people’s quality of life and create such a direct and convenient network of routes that walking and cycling will become the natural way of covering many journeys in this area. It will connect to and further enhance the east - west coastal route which extends as far as Worthing.
Should Connect2 be successful it would transform not just this area, but communities throughout the UK. In total there are 79 proposed schemes where Connect2 would make a real difference. Each Connect2 scheme will be inspirational in design, but sensitive both to the needs and character of the area.
