Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) in Adur
Update on Civil Parking Enforcement in Adur - November 2008 update
- NCP Services have been surveying the districts’ signs and lines, in conjunction with West Sussex County Council, and an order for remedial works has been placed. It is anticipated that all signs and lines will be corrected and brought into line with the Traffic Regulation Orders to make them fully compliant in advance of the go-live date in January 2009.
Update on Civil Parking Enforcement in Adur - October 2008
- Adur District Council is working hard on public literature to explain the scheme and the appeal procedure. Various website pages are in their draft stage to give as much information to readers as possible and the stationery for drivers is almost complete. Regular meetings are being held with Adur Cabinet Members to ensure the scheme meets the needs of local residents, businesses and visitors as much as possible. A presentation for Blue Badge holders has been designed for those who require more information and will be advertised soon after the scheme is implemented in January 2009.
Update on Civil Parking Enforcement in Adur - September 2008
- All is still in order for the implementation of Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) to be introduced in Adur from Monday 26th January 2009. Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) will start work to make parking easier for local businesses, shoppers, residents and visitors.
- Local authorities are taking over the responsibility of parking enforcement from the police across the country, giving them the power to enforce parking controls by means of the Traffic Management Act 2004. West Sussex County Council, in partnership with Adur District Council, has made their application to the Department for Transport for the new powers and the publicity for the scheme is increasing in order to ensure a good understanding is held by all in advance of implementation in January 2009.
- The scheme is expected to be cost-neutral to Adur District Council, and to run at no cost to the Council tax-payer. The contract will be operated by NCP Services and managed as part of the Worthing Borough Council scheme where CPE went live in September 2007. Adur District Council will continue to manage its car parks and off-street charging policy.
- There will be no changes on-street other than an increase in enforcement of the parking regulations already in place. Those who abide by these regulations will see no difference at all. The scheme is set to improve the availability of on-street parking for shoppers visiting our town centres and will help to ensure that disabled parking spaces and loading bays are kept free for those legitimately able to use them.
