Drought information and hosepipe bans

Southern Water logoCurrent water use restictions

Please refer to the Southern Water website (www.southernwater.co.uk) for up to date information on water supply information - they have a postcode search tool on their homepage where you can find out about the water supply in your area. They also have a water resource update page which gives current information about water supply and restictions in place on its use (www.southernwater.co.uk/Environment/managingResources/default.asp).

Note : Local residents are still encouraged to reduce water use especially watering gardens using hosepipes or sprinklers, non essential washing of vehicles and cleaning driveways etc. This will help to conserve water supplies. See below for tips on water conservation ...

Tap with running waterSaving water tips

We can all easily make large water savings by making a few small adjustments to the way we do things.

These changes will help everyone, especially in the light of recent drought warnings, and could help to reduce your water bills too if you are on a water meter.

For more information on how to make these water savings visit the Southern Water website :

A couple of quick water saving ideas :

  • When you run your hot water tap, why not try collecting the cold water that comes out first (before it runs hot) and using this to water your plants or garden with? You'll be surpised how much water is wasted everyday by just running this 'cold hot water' away!
  • After preparing vegetables or salad, use the water left in the bowl for your garden.
  • If you want a cold drink - why not try keeping a clean bottle of fresh tap water in your fridge and using this to make your cold drinks with instead of running the cold tap until it gets really cold. You can then refill it again when it is empty.
