Adur & Worthing Safer Communities Partnership
The
Adur & Worthing Safer Communities Partnership (A&WSCP or SCP) has
a statutory duty to reduce crime and disorder. The partnership is made up
of the following agencies :
- Adur & Worthing Councils
- Sussex Police
- Sussex Police Authority
- West Sussex County Council
- West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service
- NHS West Sussex
- Sussex Probation
- West Sussex Drug & Alcohol Action Team
Many other partners contribute and are involved in the work of the SCP,
including those agencies from both the statutory and voluntary sector, local
businesses and members of the community.
The Adur Joint Action Group (JAG) and Worthing Action Group (WAG) are the central groups that determines much of the activity in Adur & Worthing. This group identifies problems and hotspots, in order to target action in those areas affected. If needed Local Action Teams (LATs) are established to deal with specific issues e.g. boy racing. LATs work in partnership with local residents to bring about effective solutions.
The types of issues dealt with might include :
- anti-social behaviour (ASB) (including youth-related disorder; anti-social driving, alcohol related disorder)
- public place violent crime
- racist incidents
- graffiti
- criminal damage
- environmental crime
- abandoned vehicles
- poor lighting, etc
Residents and the local community are encouraged to report issues to the Safer Communities Team (see below).
The priorities for the Safer Communities Partnership is set out in the Partnership Plan 2008-11 :
