Performance Indicators
The Council is required to measure how well it is doing against a number of performance indicators that have been set nationally by the Government. As well as showing whether we are improving each year, we also use the indicators to show how well we are doing compared to other councils or organisations providing the same services.
The Government has set a target for all councils which is to aim to work towards the top 25% of the best performers for each and every service, over the next five years. This is an attempt to bring poorly performing councils up to the level of those working well.
Some services have introduced local targets and/or Quality of Life indicators, particularly in the areas where there are no statutory indicators. These will allow us to monitor local issues and set our own local targets according to the priority of the issue within the community or the organisation.
Each year the Council is required to produce a Best Value Performance Plan within which it has to publish its performance indicators for the end of that year.
