Shoreham skatepark opening postponed
Ref : 09/108 : Date : 14-12-2009
Shoreham’s skatepark official opening on Sunday 20 December 2009 is postponed because the bad weather during November and December has delayed work to complete the project.
Adur Council are now looking towards the end of January 2010 for the opening date. Residents will have seen the 20 December opening announced in the council magazine Adur Outlook. At the time of going to print this date looked good, but since then the rain hasn't stopped.
The skatepark, is the first of its kind in Sussex to feature a 'deep bowl' and a 'street course'. Funding for the project has come from the Big Lottery £120,000 and Viridor £30,000.
Local skateboarders have been involved with the project from the start and have worked tirelessly with council officers. Parks manager, Clive Bramble said: “Obviously the skaters and council are disappointed by the delay caused by the awful weather and the contractors Blakedown Landscapes have done their best. The good news is it is not far off completion so by the end of January, fingers crossed, we will have our grand opening.”
