Great reduction to Adur's crime figures
Ref : 08/060 : Date : 16-07-2008
Adur is one of the safest places to live, work or visit. Figures
released by the Home Office today show a 25 per cent drop in crime in the
area in the last three years. This beats the target for West Sussex
by 10 per cent.
One of the reasons for this dramatic reduction is the work of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) who have masterminded many groundbreaking initiatives by working together for the last 10 years.
The partnership is setting new targets to tackle crime in a new plan. Work will be done to reduce alcohol and drug related anti social behaviour, highlighted as a concern by residents.
The success work of Operation Respect introduced last summer continues. Operation Crackdown has drastically reduced abandoned vehicles on Adur's streets. And the joint contract with Worthing Borough Council has meant offensive or racist is graffiti is cleaned within one working day of being reported and all other graffiti within three days of being reported. The police are targeting people who leave their tag lines around the districts walls.
James Asser, District Commander for Adur Police says "The reduction in crime recorded within the British Crime Survey goes some way to illustrate the work of the police and partner agencies and in demonstrating that Adur remains a safe place to live and work. Our Crime and Disorder Partnership (CDRP) have spearheaded a number of crime reduction initiatives including operation Respect which has focused police and partnership resources upon Anti Social Behaviour within our communities and operation Buff, a new programme of work to identify those responsible for graffiti, reducing the presence of such damage within our wards."
"I would take this opportunity to thank our partners who during 2007/08 have committed a great deal of their resources to local projects combating local crime. As the district commander I intend to take my team with our partnerships into 2008/09 reducing crime and the fear of crime working to identify local priorities, with the Neighbourhood Panels the forum for these. Such panels within each ward will comprise of local people and their respective police community support officers who will be in a position to identify local priorities which we, will address with the considerable resources available to us."
Councillor David Simmons, Cabinet Member for safer communities said "Crime cannot easily exist in a community that cares. We are fortunate to have an active and valued partnership with our community, Sussex Police and others, which has been so successful in tackling some of these issues. We look forward to building on this work by encouraging even more local people to take an active role, and join us in helping to maintain Adur as a safe and pleasant place in which to live and work."
