Adur District Council highly commended for risk work

Adur District Council has been highly commended after reaching the final of the Asset Risk category at the National Risk Management Awards in Birmingham last week.
During the last year the council have undertaken a great deal of work to improve flood awareness and researched alternative methods to protect the council’s infrastructure.
John Rodway, Corporate and Public Safety Manager for Adur and Worthing Council’s was also a finalist for Risk Manager of the year for the second year running. He was highly commended for his work on risk management and received recognition for his involvement in local projects and voluntary work.
Councillor David Simmons cabinet member responsible for civic contingencies said, “We welcome this award and congratulate John Rodway on the commitment and innovation which led to his award, his second in two years. As a direct result of the work undertaken, we are now able to show the way forward, assisting the community to take early precautions to minimize damage to their property where there is a risk of flooding.”
The award follows the highly successful flood awareness day at the Shoreham Community Centre on 27th June. Representatives from the council, West Sussex Fire and Rescue and the Environment Agency worked together to inform residents and businesses in the area about the latest in flood prevention and protection.
