Homes could replace furniture movers in Shoreham
Ref : 07/123 : Date : 11-12-2007
Developing giants Taylor Wimpey want to build 119 new flats on the site
of furniture removal company Howard Kent on the A259 at Kingston Beach, Shoreham.
A planning application has been submitted to Adur District Council for the development of 90 two bedroomed flats and 29 one bedroom flats. 32 of these would be affordable.
The proposed development has the accommodation arranged in two blocks which are between three and seven storeys high. The design of the buildings is said by the developers to take in the nautical elements of the location and the overall imagery is of a boat or ship anchored in the safety of the harbour.
Corner balconies are projected to resemble the prow of a ship and round windows make reference to port holes. The roofs on the buildings are designed to look like an undulating wave.
To address issues of flooding the developers propose to have the accommodation facing the river raised on a podium with car parking arranged below the level of Brighton Road.
People can come and see the plans at the Adur Council Civic Centre in Shoreham. Comments should be made to the planning services manager by 31 January 2008.
