Local council saves hundreds of lives
Ref : 07/114 : Date : 30-11-2007
A local Council has saved the lives of up to 500 peoples in trouble torn
Zimbabwe, simply by drinking water.
Adur District Council have partnered with local water cooler company AquAid and the charity Pump Aid in a unique opportunity which sees local communities working together with local business and charity to assist those in the outer lying villages in Zimbabwe to access fresh water for the first time in their lives.
The partnership allows any premises, whether school, business or charity who acquire four of AquAid’s plumbed in water coolers, to sponsor a personalised well in the Manicaland Province of the troubled nation. The council have received a certificate containing a picture of the well with their name on it, and a letter of thanks from one of the children in the village.
Housing and Central Services Committee Chairman, Julie Searle from Adur District Council said: “What an incredible opportunity to know that through drinking the water from the AquAid coolers so many lives have been saved. We are delighted to be part of this unique scheme.”
Nigel Collins, AquAid’s Sales Director said: “It is such a
simple scheme. Not only are the schools increasing the concentration span
and health of their own pupils, but at the same time bringing hope and a
fresh outlook on life to many who may have otherwise died. With 1.2 billion
people in the world still without fresh running water, its great to know
that working in partnership with the school and Pump Aid, we can make a difference.”
