Adur streets easier to park on from next September
Ref : 07/113 : Date : 29-11-2007
Parking on Adur’s town centre streets will be easier from September
2008 when the council takes over on-street parking enforcement when it moves
from being the responsibility of the police.
Worthing Borough Council introduced local authority parking enforcement this September and have hailed it as a success in reducing anti social parking now their contract with NCP Services is expected to be extended to include Adur.
West Sussex County Council which has responsibility for road traffic management is committed to a programme of introducing civil parking enforcement throughout the county and uses district councils as its agents for management. Adur now follows Worthing, Horsham and Mid Sussex.
It is anticipated that six parking attendants will be employed to ensure people park responsibly on Adur's streets and in Adur's car parks. For some time the district has had little or no policing of on-street parking. This has meant people overstaying the permitted time on certain roads causing residents in those areas problems. The scheme will be designed to be self financing and at no extra cost to the council tax payers.
Community and Leisure Services Chairman, Keith Dollemore said: “ This is good news for residents, businesses and people visiting our towns. Parking our cars always gets people excited and this move will make it easier to find space, especially for those who live in our town centres.”
