Council’s options for change reduced
Ref : 07/110 : Date : 19-11-2007
A change in legislation, which governs the way councils make decisions, has reduced Adur Council’s options to change the way they make decisions from five to three.
The options for consideration are :
- Cabinet and leader
- A directly elected mayor and cabinet
- A streamlined committee system (this is what the council has at the moment)
The two options removed are :
- A directly elected mayor and council manager
- Elected executive.
The council’s monitoring officer, Jeremy Cook said: “Anyone who has contributed to the consultation on this important matter and chosen one of the options no longer eligible can choose one of the others available.”
A public consultation event takes place on at 7pm Thursday 22 November at the Barn, Southwick. Councillors will also debate this issue at 7pm on 11 December at the Civic Centre. This meeting is also open to the public.
