Developer tries again to build 12 flats in Southwick
Ref : 07/109 : Date : 13-11-2007
A plan to knock down two homes in Southdown Road, Southwick and build 12 flats has been resurrected. Property developers Clivedon Homes had their earlier planning application refused and turned down on appeal.
Now they have come up with a new design, having listened to the planning inspectors comments. The new application they claim is more in keeping with the area and addresses the issues of height and depth highlighted by the inspector. He stated in his report that when seen from the west it would appear dominant and out of scale with other homes nearby.
The proposed building would have 12 flats, 10 two bedroom and 2 one bedroom built over one to three storeys and with a lower roof height. The building would be positioned on the central part of the site with the front elevation set back between 11 – 13 metres from the road. The building would be 21 metres wide with a maximum overall depth of 25 metres.
According to the new plans rear car parking has been moved further away from the side garden boundary of the property next door. This will allow space to plant screening vegetation and put up an acoustic fence.
The proposed ‘look’ of the building would be as in the previous application using a blend of contemporary and traditional design features. The planning inspectors comments agreed that the building itself would be attractive and he considered it would preserve the character and appearance of the conservation area.
The plans are available for inspection at Adur District Council’s Civic Centre, Ham Road, in Shoreham. Comments should be sent to the planning services manager at the Civic Centre by 14 December 2007.
