Wheelie binsKey Issues on waste and recycling :

  • From 23rd March 2009 the blue box and black sacks will be replaced by blue lidded and grey lidded wheelie bins for recycling and refuse.
  • Apart from a few properties in Shoreham and Worthing town centres the blue box will have been replaced by the wheelie bin.
  • Some Bring sites remain for residents living in flats
  • So far the new wheeled bin service has seen a:
    • 24% reduction in residual waste to landfill
    • 23% increase in materials for recycling
    • 60% increase in garden waste sent for composting
  • The current recycling rate for Adur & Worthing is 33.23%
  • The introduction of the new wheeled bin service will :
    • Increase the quantity of household waste actually recycled
    • Increase the amounts of garden waste sent for composting
    • Reduce the quantity of residual waste that cannot be recycled or composted which is sent to landfill
  • Existing landfill sites in West Sussex will be full up within five years
