Register of Electors

Electoral registration : Rolling registration

Electoral registration : Annual canvass of Electors for the Register of Electors
(takes place during : September, October and November only)

The annual canvass for the Register of Electors begins at the end of August each year and runs for three months. This canvass requests all householders to check the information currently contained on the Register of Electors. If the details are incorrect or have changed since the last update then now is the time to have the information changed.

If the details are correct and no changes are necessary, this year you can use an automated telephone or internet response service. This service is easy and convenient to use 24 hours per day, and you do not have to return your form.

The reference date for residence is 15th October, but householders are requested not to wait until then to return their forms.

Reminder forms will be sent in late September to households where no response has been received. However, it is inevitable that some will cross in the post.

By completing and returning the registration form (or using the telephone or internet response service), you will ensure that you can vote at next year's District Council Elections.

The new Register of Electors will be published on 1st December and it is available for inspection at the Civic Centre. Alternatively, you can contact Electoral Services to check your entry.

There are two versions of the Register produced; the full register and the edited register. The full register is for use by political parties, candidates and their agents for election purposes; for law enforcement, the prevention and detection of crime, and for credit referencing purposes. The edited version of the register is available for any purpose such as mail shots and if you wish your name to be excluded from the edited versions of the Register you can do so by ticking the "opt out" option on the form. A leaflet produced by the Electoral Commission is available on their website (see link below).

A copy of the Electoral Registration Form is also available to use below. This form requires a signature so it must be printed and cannot be returned on-line. (You can only use the telephone response service from the information supplied on your personal form delivered to your home).

If you have any queries please contact the Electoral Registration Office.
