Elections

The District Council administers all elections (and referendums) held whether they are Parliamentary, European Parliamentary, District, County or Parish elections.

Elections for the District Council are usually held on the first Thursday in May every other year. Elections are held for the County Council, and Lancing and Sompting Parish Council every four years.

 

Local and Parliamentary Elections 6th May 2009

Vote - put your cross in the boxThis year if you are registered to vote in Adur you will have the opportunity to vote for at least one Councillor in each ward.

If you are registered to vote your poll card will be delivered by hand from 26th March to 6th April. This will tell you when and where to vote. Alternatively, if you have already applied for a postal vote you will get a card confirming your postal vote for this election.

Application forms to register to vote or to vote by post must be received by the Electoral Registration Office by Tuesday 20th April 2010 in order to be effective for the elections on Thursday 6th May 2010.

 

Other elections

  • Vote - put your cross in the boxEuropean Parliamentary elections are held every five years and the next one is scheduled to be held in 2014. These elections are usually held on the second Thursday in June although the European Parliament makes the decision nearer the time.
  • By elections can be held at any time when a casual vacancy occurs. This happens on the resignation or death of a currently serving Councillor.
