Eligible to vote

Vote - put your cross in the boxYour name must appear on the Register of Electors in order that you can vote. If you are in any doubt about this contact the Electoral Services Office, Town Hall, Chapel Road, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 1HA on (01903) 221014, 221015, 221016 to check.

If you have moved since the Register of Electors for 2009 was compiled (during the autumn last year) you can make an application to re-register.

The last date for receipt of re-registration claims to be valid for the June elections is Tuesday 19th May 2009 . If you had registered last autumn and have moved, but not made an application to re-register by 19th May 2009, you can still vote using your former address where you are registered. You can simply return to the polling station allocated to your former address; you don't need your poll card, or you can apply to vote by post.

Polling day

Vote - put your cross in the boxThe elections will be held on Thursday 4th June 2009 between 7am and 10pm.

Poll cards will be delivered to all registered electors (who have not already been set up as postal voters) in April. You don't need your card to vote so long as you are registered. Your poll card tells you at what polling station you should vote at, please check this carefully as some stations have changed since the last elections.

Postal voting

Vote - put your cross in the boxPostal voting is a most convenient method of voting, you don't need to go the polling station and if you apply by 5pm on 19th May 2009 (at the latest) we will send you a postal vote. All you need to do is mark the ballot paper for the candidate you are voting for, provide your signature and date of birth on the statement which comes with the postal vote and return it in the reply paid envelope.

Those electors who already have a postal vote set up for them won't receive a poll card but will receive a card confirming the postal vote is live for these elections. Completed postal vote applications must be received at Civic Centre, Ham Road Shoreham-by-Sea by 5pm on 19th May 2009 at the latest to be able to issue you with a postal vote. Remember, all postal vote applications now need to be completed with your date of birth and signature which acts as an extra security measure.

The main issue of postal votes will be on Wednesday, 27th May 2009. Postal votes will be sent by first class post to all registered postal voters.

Due to partnership working with Worthing Borough Council and a combined Elections Team, all Postal Votes issued and returned will be dealt with at the Town Hall in Worthing this year. Your Postal Vote pack will have a return address of Worthing Borough Council but this is only a return address and it will be dealt with as normal for the Elections in the Adur District.
