Community support
Southlanders group
Southlanders
is a group of local people from a neighbourhood in the Southlands ward. They
came together in 2003 in response to the poor health, educational, social
and economic statistics for the area.
Their overarching aim is to make a real difference to the lives of the people that live in their community.
They are fully constituted and are applying for charitable status.
Since they formed they have achieved a great deal including a new park for local children, annual fun day, free information events, social events and local health walks. They aim to achieve much more and have included these aims in their new Action Plan. A copy is attached below. All of the aims set in the report are in direct response to the needs raised by local people. Also attached below is a leaflet providing a summary of the report that has been delivered to every household in the Southlanders area.

Local people are the driving force behind this work. However, the complex issues that exist cannot be addressed without working with partners such as Adur District Council, Western Primary Care Trust, West Sussex County Council and the Police.
