Care and Repair
Do you need help to adapt or repair your property?
Unsure where
to start?
Adur Council runs the Care and Repair service. It exists to help people who need repairs or adaptations to their homes and either can't afford it or are not sure how to go about it. The service accesses finance such as grant funding. It offers professional help to work out what needs doing and getting builders and surveyors. You can also get general advice and support along the way.
If
you have a disability you may have seen (or need to see) an occupational
therapist. We can help you to make an application for a grant or seek out
alternative funding from other sources (but you will have had to have seen
an occupational therapist before applying for a grant). See also our information
on disabled facilities
grants and repair grants.
After we have carried out work we ask you to fill in an a survey form to help us monitor and improve the service. To save postage costs you can complete instead the
Handyman service
We have a new handyman working with us now. A reasonable charge of £7.50 per hour is made for labour (maximum three hours stay) and you supply any materials needed. Please contact us for more details of how we can help you get those small jobs sorted out.
To qualify for the Handyman you must either be: on a low income; aged 60 and over; or be disabled. The Handyman service is available to Adur residents only.
What we can do:
- simple plumbing (tap washers, lever taps)
- carpentry (shelves, repairs)
- gutter clearance or repairs
- grab rails
- curtain rails
- moving furniture (not clearance)
- telephone extensions
- fence repairs
What we can't do:
- gardening
- large scale painting and decorating
