Domestic Violence takes many forms ranging from physical attacks, sexual assaults, and threats of violence to more subtle forms such as being locked in, humiliation and being kept short of money. Often children are hurt as a result of domestic violence.

The Women’s Refuge Project at Adur provides support for women and children affected by domestic violence who live in, or have a local connection with, the Adur district. We provide practical assistance and emotional support in a safe and confidential environment where you will not be judged or pressured into taking a particular course of action.

If you want to contact us :

  • Our confidential advice line is staffed by women from 10:00am to 1:00pm weekdays on : (01273) 263414. If the line is engaged please keep trying or leave a message and we will respond as soon as we can
  • You can send us (Women's Refuge Project) an e mail with your contact details
  • Alternatively, you may call The National Domestic Violence Helpline 0808  2000  247 who will be able to assist you by putting you in touch with alternative support services.
  • If you are in danger or in an emergency please dial 999

From April 17th 2007 we will be offering a Domestic Abuse Survivor's Support Group on Tuesdays between 10:30am and 12:30pm. Please contact us to find out more.

Our support workers can advise you on a number of issues including :

  • benefits and financial issues
  • support with criminal & civil justice proceedings
  • access to legal advice

We provide one to one appointments at our project base which is fully accessible to wheelchair users. We are able to visit you at home or at an alternative community location if you have additional needs which may prevent you from attending our project base. Alternatively you may call our advice line as detailed above. We also offer a free counselling service and a signposting service for men affected by domestic violence.
