Adur Youth Council

The Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 appointed three members to undertake a review of the arrangements for the Adur Youth Council.

Affordable Housing

Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 were asked by the Housing and Central Services Committee to review affordable housing provision and the Council's policies in relation to the ongoing problem of there not being enough affordable housing of various types in the district to meeting housing need. The Committee appointed a Working Group of three members to administer the review.

Allotments

Development and Scrutiny Committee 2 appointed three members to form a Working Group with the Adur Allotment Representative as a co-optee to look at whether there is a need for further allotments in the district. The Working Group consulted with current allotment holders and residents who are on various waiting lists for an allotment. A need was established and the Working Group identified a site which was reccommended to the Community and Leisure Services Committee for consideration.

Dog Fouling

The Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 review of dog fouling followed a request by the Chairman of the Committee. This was due to problems he had experienced in his ward and of adverse letters to the press regarding Lancing Manor Park. The Committee appointed a Working Group of four members to administer the review.

Political Management Structure

The Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 were requested by Council to undertake a review of the Council's political management structure. The Committee held meetings on 24 May 2007, 7 June 2007, 18 June 2007 and 21 June 2007 were they heard evidence from various members of Adur and other authorities. The Committee received written submissions from officers and members. Two members of the Committee also conducted 7 telephone interviews.

Polling Places Review

The Council under the Electoral Administratin Act 2006 (s.16) required that a review of Polling Districts and Polling Places be undertaken. This was allocated to Development and Scrutiny 2 Committee to undertake. The Committee appointed a Working Group of three members to administer the review.

Providing a site for Motor Bikes and mini Bikes in Adur

The Council received a number of complaints regarding people riding mini motor bikes in public areas and on the roads. Scrutiny were tasked into looking at whether the Council should provide a site for Motor bikes and mini bikes in Adur. Development and Scrutiny Committee 2 formed a Working Group to carry out their investigations, which included a consultation exercise.

Recruitment Advertising

Recruitment Advertising was reviewed in 2005 by the Council's Development & Scrutiny Committee 2 and a six point plan was developed for replacement reduction and nice ways to prune advertising costs. The review identified at least £47,000 worth of savings. The Committee monitored the results in 2006 and 2007.

Review of Assets and Asset profile

Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 were asked to undertake a review of the Assets relating to freehold and leasehold land held by the Council. They identified 10 sites as suitable for potential development.

Review of Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act

Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 were asked by the Policy and Strategy committee to undertake a review of the various aspects of the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act, which included Street Trading Provisions. The Committee appointed a Working Group of three members to administer the review.

Voluntary Sector Support

Development and Scrutiny Committee 1 were requested to undertake a review of the Council's support of the voluntary sector in Adur and make recommendations to the Community and Leisure Services Committee.
