Changing
text size (and webpage colours) :
Adjusting the text size (and screen colours) on all websites
Most web browsers allow you to quickly and easily change the size of text, and also adjust the colours, on your screen.
If you adjust your web browser in this way to suit your needs then, when you leave our website and go to another website, you will retain those changes and other websites will use your preferred settings. For this reason we haven't included special buttons or tools on the Adur District Council website that you can click on to adjust how its text size and colours appear on screen. Instead we have built our website in such a way to allow you to customise how it appears on screen by setting your web browser to your own personal requirements which should make our website, and also your whole web experience, much more accessible to you.
The BBC's 'My Web My Way' website gives very easy to follow step by step instructions on how to adjust your browser (and computer) to suit your own particular needs. Just follow the link on their homepage as to whether you are a Windows, Mac or Linux user :

The following instructions should help you to quickly change the text
size on our website :
Internet
Explorer (4 or higher) :
- Click on the 'View' pull down menu
- Select 'Text Size'
- Select the size you want from 'Smallest' to 'Largest' - 'Medium' is the default setting and the one best suited to our website
- Alternatively you can hold down the 'Ctrl' key on your keyboard and roll the wheel scroller on your mouse to change the size

Opera
:
- Click on the 'View' pull down menu
- Select 'Zoom'
- Select the size font you want smaller or larger or 100% for the default setting
- Alternatively you can hold down the 'Ctrl' key on your keyboard and roll the wheel scroller on your mouse to change the size
- You can also change the font size by, using the number pad on your keyboard, pressing ‘+’ to zoom-in or ‘-‘ to zoom-out, you can use * on the number keypad to reset the size to the default setting.

Firefox
:
- Click on the 'View' pull down menu
- Select 'Text Size'
- Select increase or decrease or normal for the default setting
- Alternatively you can hold down the 'Ctrl' key on your keyboard and roll the wheel scroller on your mouse to change the size
- You can also change the font size by holding down the 'Ctrl' key and then, using the number pad on your keyboard, press ‘+’ to zoom-in or ‘-‘ to zoom-out, you can use 'Ctrl' and the 0 in the numbers across the top of the keyboard to reset the size to the default setting.

- Select 'Make Text Bigger' to increase the text size
- Or select 'Make Text Smaller' to decrease the text size.
- Alternatively you can change the font size by holding down the 'Ctrl' key on your keyboard and then, using the number keys across the top of the keyboard (not the number pad), press ‘+’ to zoom-in or ‘-‘ to zoom-out, you can use 'Ctrl' and the 0 to reset the size to the default setting.

Teach a man to fish ...
This method of changing your web browser to suit your own personal needs or requirements, rather than adapting only a single website and then losing those settings when you leave it and go to another website, follows the 'teach a man to fish' idea :
- "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." Chinese Proverb
In a more modern version it sort of becomes :
- "Give a man a tool (or widgit) to adapt just your website and he will be able to use it for a day. Teach him how to adapt his web browser to his needs and he will be able to access the whole web for a lifetime."
